Teppanyaki Hamburg Nihonbashi Keisuke Bettei

Those who know me know that I am a huge fan of the Keisuke Group’s chain of ramen eateries around Singapore. It first started when I discovered their second outlet in Tanjong Pagar “Keisuke Tonkatsu King. Since then, they have been a firm presence in the area with no less than 4 outlets, each serving something a little different.

Today marks the opening of their 5th outlet in the area. Distinctly more like a restaurant than the their usual outlets and much closer in style to their flagship branch at Suntec.

As with Master Chef Keisuke Takeda’s style, the menu is deliberately scant. There are only 2 choices available. Prime Beef Hamburg Steak or Triple Cheese Prime Beef  Hamburg Steak. If you order the one with cheese, don’t be surprised if you only see a small bit of cheese on the hamburg. The hamburg is done Juicy Lucy style with the cheese inside the burger, retaining that melted texture.

Each hamburg comes on a hot skillet atop some grilled onions and four choices of sauces to go along with it: Keisuke original sauce, demi-glace, oroshi ponzu, and teriyaki mayonnaise. Each set comes with a tempura prawn leaning in the skillet handle, some fried beancurd, a pan-fried tofu and free flow of rice. But don’t go ordering that second bowl of delicious japanese rice right away, there are other free flow items as well.

Each meal comes with free flow of eggs. Yes, the familiar free flow hard boiled eggs (and bean sprouts) are available here and they are bringing their friends; There are soft boiled, scrambled, omelettes, fried, sunny side up, and tamago available as well!

Along with that is a salad bar buffet with plenty of fresh veggies as well as so many carb based salads (macaroni, cha soba, pasta tuna, ramen, and potato salads) and various dressings! Now you know why you don’t really need that second bowl of rice.

Also at the salad bar, are some freshly cut fruits as well as a traditional favourite at japanese eateries of old – coffee jelly. Unsweetened on its own, the bitter taste of the coffee is best served with a side of coffee cream.

I also had to try their latest drink Sakura Cola (S$3.80), which like my favourite Green Tea Cola, is a Keisuke staple that is a refreshing soft drink that leaves a very slight hint of rose on the tastebuds.

So what does this experience cost? S$18.80 for the Prime Beef Steak and S$20.80 for the Triple Cheese Prime Beef  Hamburg Steak (prices exclude GST and service charge). Very good value for money.
